Temporary residence for the purpose of family reunion can be granted to family members of individuals with temporary or permanent residence in Slovakia.


Temporary residence can be renewed, even repeatedly.

Permanent residence

After five years, it is possible to apply for permanent residence.

Who can apply?

Temporary residence for the purpose of study may be granted for the anticipated duration of studies, up to a maximum of 6 years. This type of residence is available only to full-time secondary school students under the age of 20, full-time university students, and individuals attending language or professional training programs for university studies organized by a university.

For individuals holding a temporary residence permit for study purposes, there is the benefit of engaging in business and work without the need for additional permits or changing the purpose of their residence, with a maximum limit of 10 hours per week.

List of documents you have to provide:
    • Certificate of completion of high school
    • Criminal record with apostille of the country he/she is a national to, a list of competent authorities for verification of apostille will be delivered by country of origin
    • Criminal record with apostille of the country where the third country national has resided during last three years for a period longer than 90 days within six consecutive months 
    • Statement of the balance on a bank account in Slovakia or in a third country
